Born in Chicago, raised in Denver, and transplanted to the country of his parents’ birth, Bennii has called the Philippines home since 1995.
Bennii currently plays drums in Overdrive, The Blue Rats, and Tempestuous Jones. “Tempestuous Jones is my rock band where I really show my grit because we do a lot of original material. It’s the kind of stuff you can sink your teeth into and it sticks to your ribs!” His band Overdrive is well-known throughout the Philippines and they’ve played to sold out shows in the UK and Singapore. The Blue Rats are Manila-based musicians who are touted as the Philippines’ longest-running blues band, playing to packed venues in and around the big island of Luzon. Virtually anybody who’s anybody in the Philippines’ music scene has played with The Blue Rats at one time or another. He has also had the honor of playing for international artists such as Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Art of Anarchy and Guns ‘n’ Roses) and toured the Philippines with The Speaks.
Bennii performs drum clinics all over the Philippines sharing ideas with drummers, both young and old. “It’s gigs like these that keep me connected to drummers from everywhere. I love sharing all kinds of information with drummers of various backgrounds! I make a concerted effort to never stop learning.” His favorite and most memorable clinic was when he and Marco Minnemann fell off the stage during their drum duo back in 2008!
Taking a dive head first into many facets of the music industry, Bennii’s thirst for expanding his repertoire is never-ending. He spent the better part of eight years in radio and recently returned to the airwaves. As one of the current hosts and content provider for AO Radio on Manila’s Jam88.3, they put the life back in mid-life by playing the best of glam/hair metal. The weekly gig affords him opportunities to continue sharing music on yet another platform.
