Montes was born and raised in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico where he began his musical career. As a student of The Escuela Libre de Música and Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, Jonathan was exposed to the world of Latin music in which he rapidly became a highlight and one of the top musicians of his generation. After touring with diverse bands and artists from Puerto Rico, Montes decided to move to Los Angeles. Jonathan found in Los Angeles the diversity of styles he needed to keep growing his musical path, and he studied in Cornell School of Contemporary Music. With the help of professors Otmaro Ruiz, Abraham Laboriel and Mauricio Guerrero, Jonathan expanded his abilities not only as a multi genre pianist-keyboardist but also as an arranger, composer and producer.
From that point Montes never stopped. As a composer arranger and producer, his works started to appear in television in series like Jane The Virgin. As a pianist-keyboardist, Montes has been part of many recordings including the Latin Grammy Nominated album “Bajo Mundo” from bassist Oskar Cartaya, All 4 One “Twenty” Anniversary Album, and “New Tradiciones “ from Adrienne Houghton. Montes has also toured around the world and has been in stages like the Hollywood Bowl, Latin Grammys and has worked with artists like:
