Gruv Gear Welcomes Contrabassist and Composer Yves Carbonne from France As Artist Endorser

February 11, 2013

California music accessories brand Gruv Gear is proud to feature Contrabassist and Composer Yves Carbonne. Yves is part of a family of prominent world-class musicians that heartily endorse Gruv Gear products.

Yves Carbonne is a French artist, musician, bass, contrabass and sub-bass guitarist, composer, improvisator, arranger and producer.

Yves parents were not musicians but offered him some piano lessons when he was 7. Because his old brother was playing guitar, Yves had the desire to play with him so he began playing electric bass at 13 and upright at 15. He was first an autodidact then he took some private lessons with several teachers, including Alain Caron and Dominique Di Piazza. He started to work as a professional musician at 17.

For the last fifteen years Yves has worked with the great luthiers Christian Noguera and Jerzy Drozd to develop his unique vision of the bass guitar. From those collaborations, the sub-bass was born. It's a bass guitar that can play one octave lower than a standard one. Yves created the sub-bass concept in 2003, with the help of La Bella strings.

Yves plays all kinds of bass guitars. He is known all over the world as the first 10 and 12 string fretless sub- bass guitarist (and lefty!). Of course, he still loves to play 4-string bass guitar and enjoys to collect vintage left- handed Fender Jazz Basses. He also plays double bass.

His music is a celebration of life and freedom. Yves generally uses spectacular instruments for new sonorities to create and perform soulful music. Today he concentrates on musical composition and instrumental research. His music is sophisticated and appreciated by a wide audience.

Yves’ first album “Seven Waves” (2007) is a bass & voice project with singer Guillaume Eyango. This project includes also: Michael Manring (bass), Laurent Maur (harmonica), Roger Biwandu (drums), and Antony Breyer (drums). The music of this album is an original mix of soul, jazz, funk and relaxation/meditation with an unusual use of bass guitars. "Seven Waves" is a very melodic album which is not only for musicians but for everybody.

"The most important for me in music is to transmit your emotions, not your ability to play an instrument".

His last album "A Life" (2009 - With Guillaume Eyango, Laurent Maur, Roger Biwandu, and Antony Breyer) includes Marcus Miller on the song "New Love".

Yves has also recorded in 2005 a bass trio album with bass virtuosos Michael Manring and Dominique Di Piazza – “Carbonne Di Piazza Manring”.
