Gruv Gear Welcomes New Artist Endorser, South African Bassist Prince Bulo

California music accessories brand Gruv Gear is proud to announce Bassist Prince Bulo as an official Artist Endorser. Prince joins a family of prominent world-class musicians that heartily endorse Gruv Gear products.

Born in South Africa, Prince is a versatile bassist and composer who derives his musical style from a diverse range of influences and best known for his works with Marcus Wyatt, Language 12, Frank McComb, Maysa Leak and Lloyd Cele.

His love for music became evident at the age of 15 when he began learning the piano at church, whilst also juggling a promising soccer career. Due to a sporting injury he spent more time playing and making music, which led him to naturally hanging his boots for the love of music.

Prince further pursued his studies at the University Of KwaZulu-Natal School Of Music where he majored in Composition, Arranging as well as Performance. He graduated Cum Laude in 2008. He is now a well sort after musician and producer in South Africa as well as internationally.

He has performed in several music festivals locally and abroad both as a sideman as well as a leader. Some of these include: Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Joy Of Jazz (Johannesburg), Awesome Africa Festival, Durban Jazz Festival, Durban Blues Festival (Durban), La Paz Music Festival (Bolivia) with Marcus Wyatt, Rio Loco (France) with Language 12, Sounds In The Lands (Canada), Lockerbie Jazz Festival (Scotland) with the Common Wealth Jazz Explosion and The Heritage Festival in India and many more.

Prince has performed and recorded with South African artist such as Marcus Wyatt - ZAR, Nondumiso Tembe – Izwi Lami (My Voice), Marlon Nelson – By Faith, Nkulee Dube – My Way, Nomhle – Ikhwezi (Morning Star) and the Bulo Band, which is collaboration of musicians from Durban, Goteborg and California recorded in Sweden. He also recorded a cultural exchange project titled “Bassists Are People Too” recorded in the USA. He has produced and performed with artists like Sibongile Khumalo, Asanda Bam, Natalie Rungan, Mageshen Naidoo, Neil Gonsalves, McCoy Mrubata, Swazi Dlamini, Ernie B St Claire, Nicky Schrire and Bokani Dyer. He performed with international artists like The North Sea Big Band, Eric Arellano (USA), Mette Eker, Jeroen van Vliet (Holland), Toumas Turenen (Finland), David Back (Sweden), Mike Ruby (Canada) and shared the stage with leading jazz musicians such as Branford Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Esparanza Spalding, Todd Gustafson, Phil Perry, Jeff Lober, Jimmy Haslip, Will Kennedy and Alexander O’Neal.

Prince is an active composer for film and television. He is also an educator at the University of KwaZulu Natal.
